Title:   Discrete fluxes, higher-form symmetries and Ward identities

Abstract:

We clarify the recently proposed notion of higher-form symmetries using the example of discrete electric and magnetic fluxes. Applying Noether’s second theorem, we show the existence of higher-form symmetries whenever there are constant gauge transformations.
Finally, we explain the higher Ward identity which is a consequence at the quantum level.
