Abstract:
Starting with the BFSS matrix model (a proposed non-perturbative
definition of superstring theory) in a high temperature
state, we show how one can obtain an emergent metric spacetime.
The emergent spatial metric is flat. Thermal fluctuations
yield cosmological fluctuations and gravitational waves with
scale-invariant spectra. The emergent early universe cosmology
hence provides an alternative to the hypothesis of cosmological
inflation for explaining the puzzles of Standard Big Bang cosmology
and providing a mechanism for the origin of structure in the
current universe.
