Abstract:
Cuprates are considered as strongly correlated materials and are still promising for realizing room-temperature superconductivity without high pressures. Because of the claimed strong correlation, it is generally believed that there are no more interesting phenomena that can be revealed by the density functional theory at the level of LDA or GGA approximation.

In this talk, I will first address several issues concerning the many-body physics and then focus on the Sr-doped La2CuO4 around the optimal doping level. I will show that the seemingly elusive observations in cuprates, such as the Fermi arc, pseudo gap, and even the stable structure, can be easily explained without encountering more complicated approximations other than GGA.
