Abstract:I will discuss the construction and enumeration of BPS and near-BPS operators in N=4 super-Yang-Mills theories. They are dual to microstates of the BPS black holes in AdS5 and near-horizon excitations of the near-BPS black holes, respectively. The first example of the BPS black hole operator is a triple trace operator in the SU(2) gauge theory, which is not of the multi-graviton form. For the near-BPS operators, I will present a large number of one-loop anomalous dimensions, which show hints of a gap in the spectrum, similar to that found by a gravitational path integral.
