Abstract:
We study the 4d SU(2) gauge theory coupled to two fundamental Higgs doublet fields on the lattice. The theory corresponds to an extension of the Higgs sector of the Standard Model (SM) popularly known as the Two-Higgs-Doublet Model (2HDM). Our goal is to understand the enlarged spectrum and the viability of a strong first-order electroweak phase transition (EWPT) in this model in the presence of large quartic couplings. Our initial investigation of the phase diagram has been performed on the custodial 2HDM in the inert limit with weak quartic couplings. We present results on the spectrum and the running of the gauge coupling on a line of constant SM physics. We provide evidence of additional beyond SM scalar states which can have masses well below the W boson. Furthermore, we study the nature of the EWPT at finite temperature.
