Abstract:
Trapped ions have been regarded as one of the most promising platforms for a quantum computer. How to scale up the system while keeping sufficiently high precision becomes an important task. In this talk we will discuss the fundamental physical limitation regarding this issue, and possible solutions that have been proposed and even being implemented. A trapped ion array also provides an opportunity for motional state manipulation. Here we propose a phonon laser prototype that is based on a large ion array and optical tweezers.
