Abstract:
Accessing strongly-coupled physics is one of the big challenges of modern theoretical physics. In recent years, it has become clear that working in sectors of large global charge leads to significant simplifications. Strongly-coupled CFTs are particularly suitable candidates for the large-charge approach. At large charge, it is often possible to write down an effective field theory which is organized as an expansion in inverse powers of the large charge, which provides a controlling parameters. It is then possible to calculate the CFT data. I will give an introduction to the large-charge expansion using the simple case of the O(2) model and its generalization to O(N).
