Abstract:
Understanding the properties of the Quark Gluon Plasma (QGP) is one of the main goals of heavy-ion experiments. Heavy quarkonia are essential probes to study the properties of the QGP via the suppression in the production due to the color-screening effect, however, it is not easy to disentangle this from other effects, for example cold nuclear matter effects and regeneration. Detailed studies on the production mechanism of quarkonia in hadron and heavy-ion collisions will not only provide us valuable knowledge for the understanding of Quantum Chromodynamics and QGP, but also play a crucial role for discovering new phenomena. STAR is one of the running heavy-ion experiments in the world and it provides a large acceptance coverage to study quarkonia via both dimuon and dielectron final states at mid-rapidity. In this presentation, the latest results on quarkonia from STAR including the production cross-section, polarization, and nuclear modification factor of J/psi and Upsilon mesons in proton+A and A+A collisions with various collision energies will be presented.
