Engineering quantum materials
Abstract:
We'll survey the recent proposals and studies in engineering topological or symmetry breaking phases, mainly focusing on heterostructures in two dimensional materials. Some attempts are quite successful (albeit with some issues), such as the quantum anomalous Hall and quantum spin Hall effect, while some are still somewhat illusive and actively sought for definite evidences. We will talk on the experimental controversies on the heterostrcures of Topological insulators and high temperature superconductor as an example of unsuccessful ones, and the lessons we learn from these trials.
