Abstract:
The top quark, the heaviest fundamental particle discovered to date, plays a crucial role in all three interactions described by the Standard Model. Notably, it decays before undergoing hadronization, allowing for the direct study of its 'free particle' properties. These unique characteristics position the top quark as a key player in the Standard Model and a potential gateway to new physics. This seminar will present two intriguing analyses that explore the tWb interaction vertex using CMS data. The first analysis focuses on an indirect search, aiming to measure the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa matrix elements involving the top quark. The second analysis is a direct search for a W' boson decaying into tb quarks, in leptonic final states.
