Conference Name | Mini Workshop on Fluctuations in Physical Biology |
Content | Advances in experimental techniques enabled quantitative measurements of living cells that revealed extensive variability and fluctuation in time for a single cell or between different cells. Statistical mechanics has been successfully applied to explain results in these experiments, and brings new insights of biological importance. Different from the classical idea which considered fluctuations as unwanted noise which should be suppressed by cells, now fluctuations have been regarded as an intrinsic part of cell dynamics, and have important implications on the evolutionary dynamics. This mini workshop brings 4 experts working on related topics to introduce this important research field to students and researchers who are interested in bringing physics to biology. |
