The thematic group of Nanoscale Physics and Chemistry at the National Center for Theoretical Sciences (NCTS) organizes the Fundamentals of Molecular Quantum Electrodynamics: A Tutorial. Please find below for more derailed information regarding this workshop. Introduction Title: Fundamentals of Molecular Quantum Electrodynamics: A Tutorial Presenter: Prof. Akbar Salam, Department of Chemistry, Wake Forest University, USA Coverage: The classical and quantum mechanical description of particles, the free electromagnetic field, and the coupling betwen light and matter is first introduced via Lagrangian and Hamiltonian dynamics. Transformations of the minimal-coupling or Coulomb gauge framework to the multipolar coupling scheme are examined next. Key spectroscopic applications to be considered include single-photon absorption and emission of light with the latter including both spontaneous and stimulated processes. This will be followed by application of the molecular QED formalism to fundamental inter-particle interactions such as resonance energy transfer and the van der Waals dispersion potential.
